About
Ōhinemahuta Nature School is a small, ‘One Day School’ Forest School program for children aged 6-16 years located on a private farm near Onamalutu Reserve in Marlborough. Ōhinemahuta Nature School encourages child-led exploration and fosters independence in a safe and supervised natural environment. Our program promotes risk-taking in a supervised setting, encouraging children to exercise autonomy and build self-confidence. Through a range of exciting activities including survival skills, indigenous practices, natural navigation, homesteading crafts, and campfire cooking, children develop important skills while learning about sustainable practices and the natural world.
Our curriculum focuses on wild learning, incorporating literacy, numeracy and science skills, in a hands-on, experiential approach. Additionally, we integrate Māori waiata, stories and traditional crafts, allowing children to connect with and learn from Māori culture. Our open natural space provides a rich learning environment where children can explore and develop their curiosity and creativity while having fun and making new friends.
Ōhinemahuta Nature School is committed to a sustainable future, and our program educates children on how to make eco-friendly choices and live sustainably. We aim to cultivate a generation of responsible citizens who appreciate and respect the natural world. With experienced and passionate leaders, we strive to create a positive learning experience for every child who joins us at Ōhinemahuta Nature School.
